EBA Strategy
This is a summary of the EBA UEMS strategy:

Work through as well as supporting UEMS centrally to promote the interest of anaesthesiologists and our professional activities in Europe.
Co-operate with the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA)
EBA aims to be the leading European Organisation for setting standards for all aspects of postgraduate medical specialist training in Anaesthesiology. This involves:
Establishing the cycle for setting standards for PMST (set standard, monitor, act, evaluate)
Having up-to-date review about PMST programmes in European countries
Promoting quality of medical care based on the set the standards for PMST
Consultations with other European bodies on harmonisation of PMST
Setting up a Fellowship in Anaesthesiology (in conjunction with ESA)
Stabilising and improving on the position as the leading European medical representative organisation that sets standards and co-ordinates mutual activities of all aspects of CME/CPD at the European level.
Improve UEMS’ position as the leading clearing house for granting CME/CPD points.
EBA should be a leading organisation in providing the documents on CME/CPD which should be used as guidelines in all European countries.
Prepare documents on quality of CME/CPD on the basis of analysing the situation in European countries with the aim to set the guidelines for further development in each country.
Having up-to-date review on the CME/CPD situation in European countries.
Key Area 4 - Anaesthesiology practice quality assurance and patient safety in Europe
Establish EBA as a leading organisation in setting standards and co-ordinating trans-national activities of all aspects of anaesthesiology practice Quality Assurance and patient safety at the European level.
The guidelines already published should become more commonly followed all over Europe.
Establish Quality Assurance and patient safety clinical indicators for anaesthesiology.
Stimulate European countries to actively collaborate in reviewing the standards in their countries. Collect data gathered in different countries.
Analyse data and make conclusions. Evaluate data and suggest improvements.
Follow up the introduction of changes/improvements.
Key Area 5 - Research
Establish EBA as a leading co-ordinating research institution and forum for scientific discussion and co-operation for the areas proclaimed as our areas of knowledge and expertise in Europe, by establishing few and relevant and valid databases on how these activities are organised and performed in different European countries:

CME/CPD
Anaesthesiology Practice Quality Assurance and patient safety
When knowledge of current existing systems through Europe has been obtained, then suggestions for further improvements as well as appropriate harmonisation of the currently operating relevant systems should be prepared.
Key Area 6 : Expertise
Establish EBA(UEMS) as the leading organisation that can offer its services and is consulted for those areas proclaimed as its areas of knowledge and expertise at the European level. EBA/UEMS will be glad, if invited, to offer advice and consultation to any party that feels it might benefit from its expertise.Accreditation: Together with the ESA, provide anaesthesiology accreditation service to institutions throughout Europe.
Key Area 7 - Leadership and management
Build and empower a leadership team and management structure that will maintain and improve EBA’s representation and visibility and to become a more “consultation-based and research-informed organisation.
Review and update the strategic plan annually.
Co-operate with other Sections & Boards in multidisciplinary joint committees in relevant fields.
Define desired development goals for anaesthesiology as a speciality, including key areas like anaesthesia, reanimation and intensive care, emergency medicine and pain.
Monitor manpower (including working time factors) and migration factors throughout Europe
Maintain a close communication with ESA, as well as co-operation in relevant fields
Key Area 8 - Marketing and resources
Through UEMS centrally and through national delegates, EBA’s areas of knowledge and expertise, programmes and services should be more actively marketed to relevant parties.EBA website should be developed.
Key Area 9 - Corporate Identity
This is a Key Area of central UEMS
